Ice Show

Attended the local skating club show this weekend to watch Bella and several other Iron Mountain students perform, it was so enjoyable to see the girls so poised and excited to be in the spotlight. The youngest skaters were precious in their sparkling ruffled tutus making their way across the ice. Made me wish I a had little one again to enjoy all those special moments with. It was really heartwarming to watch the skaters especially those dancing solo doing spins and jumps and the courage it took to get up and keep skating after a fall or wobble. The comedic highlight was the father daughter dance with the dads in drag, fun for the audience and the guys. So glad I went, it made me realize that I need to go to events more often even though Jim and Amanda are past the stage of having something for mom and dad to come watch.

Spring Cleaning

Even though I am not a neat person by nature, I love the effects of spring cleaning! I worked today at getting my classroom ready for my long term sub to take over for me while I am out for surgery and by the end of the day my room looked 100% better and I left feeling much better about my room and myself! Wish I would be motivated to do a clean sweep on a more regular basis. I still have a hard time getting rid of things but reorganizing and straightening files and piles made the room look fresh and more open. I am hopeful that once a I get past the first couple of weeks after surgery I will have the time and energy to accomplish some much needed spring cleaning at home!

It's been years...literally!

Just rediscovered this blog after 3 years away from blogging and realized how nice it would have been if I had kept it up! It was great to reread the comments I had posted and think about what was significant at the time. There are so many times I make a plan and then don't follow through that I think keeping track of what is important to me along with new thoughts and ideas would be a positive way to keep on track and to be able to look back and reflect on those ideas later.

When I look back on my posts from 2008 I feel gratitude for all that I have and the things I enjoy and am able to do.

The Last Lecture

Inspiration has come by way of television lately, I have been so busy working on the house that I haven't had the time, energy, or motivation for much else. While HGTV is the TV standard for the most part, I do stray every now and then and came across the recent prime time special on Randy Pausch. A college professor at Carnegie Mellon University living with terminal pancreatic cancer, Pauch's speech, "Really Achieveing your Childhood Dreams" is truly inspiring. Given in the tradition of Carnegie Mellon's retiring professor's "Last Lecture" his speech is for everyone. He clearly has an amazing insight on the significance of love, family, faith, and life. I had seen his Last Lecture before on the internet, I think on Oprah.com but I hadn't gotten a chance to learn more of his background and also enjoyed the personal interviews with he and his wife. Here is the link to watch it online. http://www.cmu.edu/uls/journeys/randy-pausch/index.html

Spring Break

This time of year it seems like everyone is ready for some time off. I have been so focused on reading A New Earth and trying to incorporate those ideas into my daily routine that I haven't made time for blogging. Now I am looking forward to a week off to catch up on all the new thoughts and ideas and processing them all. Of course along with the mental house cleaning I hope to accomplish some actual house cleaning that is even more urgently needed!
